I’ve loved watching the tiny tug boats help to manoeuvre huge ferries during stormy weather, and getting to see all the different roles within the port.

The Port has it’s own brand new series Dover 24/7: Britain’s Busiest Port a 6-episode behind the scenes look at how we keep our operations efficient with an introduction to some of our hard working frontline staff members. Tune in at 8pm every Monday on Channel 4 or watch on catchup on the Channel 4 streaming hub to see the latest action packed episode!
Episode 1
During episode 1 we watch our expert Cargo team handle a shipment of banana’s from Ecuador that must be executed on time, we also join a couple of our officers from the Port of Dover Police team as they handle a range of high importance calls across the Port!

Episode 2
During episode 2 we see our Operations team provide guidance to ferry passengers who are experiencing a slight departure delay due to stormy conditions that hit Dover, alongside the Tug team who are assisting a vessel struggling in the rocky conditions. We also rejoin the Port of Dover Police team as they assist Kent Police in a search for a wanted shop lifter who was seen in the local area.

Episode 3
During episode 3 we watch our Terminal Control Team deal with Crowdstrike, a massive software failure that causes the Port’s computers and phones to go dark. We also see our Vessel Traffic Services team work closely with the Marine team to dock one of the biggest cruise vessels that will stop in Dover this summer Aida Bella.

Episode 4
During episode 4 we watch our cruise team conquer one their busiest day of the year, with three cruise ships making their way into the Port at the same time! We also join a couple of our officers from the Port of Dover Police team as they handle a range of high importance calls across the Port!

Episode 5
During episode 5 we watch our engineering team complete a crucial tasks across the port including a repair to one of our ferry berths and a vital check of the infrastructure of the iconic white cliffs. We also join our environment team as they make their journey into the channel ready to complete a range of checks to ensure we are still heading towards our sustainability targets.

Episode 6
During episode 6 we watch our operations team prepare for the end of summer but the work is not over yet, with the announcement of the new Entry Exit System being brought in by the EU, the team must build a new facility to house more than 50 port operators who will assist car passengers before they proceed to passport control. We also watch the naming ceremony of our brand new Harbour Patrol Launch Vessel which marks the end of another busy summer in Dover!
