Port of Dover Welcomes SPS Talks to Strengthen UK–EU Trade Links

09/03/26

Port of Dover welcomes today’s announcement by the government on the sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) agreement it wishes to take forward with the European Union.

Dover is a critical international gateway for the movement of agri-food exports and imports as the closest seaport between the UK and its single biggest trading partner.

The Port looks forward to facilitating smoother flows of agri-foods and more if it, supporting British businesses across the nation, whilst remaining mindful of the continuing requirements concerning Rest of World trade, which for Dover continue to be overseen well by the Dover Port Health Authority.

The SPS negotiations can and should be seen as an important and symbolic message of how stronger collaboration between the UK and EU can drive economic growth and improve the flow of trade.

As the port responsible for facilitating a third of the UK’s trade in goods with the EU, Port of Dover looks forward to continued progress in support of easier trade and travel.
