We are really looking forward to welcoming the community back to the beach this summer and we are doing some works in preparation so that you can have a safe and pleasant visit.
The works form part of our Beach Maintenance Strategy and are required to re-profile an area of the beach, which essentially means relocating both rock and shingle on the beach following storms last year.
The works will start on Monday 17th May 2021, for a period of up to 14 working days, (excluding the weekend) and the plant will operate between 07:00 to 19:00 each day.
The works will be undertaken by a local Civils contractor overseen by our Civils framework provider, Knights Brown, who will have overarching management and H&S responsibilities. Knights Brown will be producing, placing, and maintaining local works advisory information boards and marshaling all vehicular movements.
The beach will remain open, with just the main areas where the excavators are working being fenced off to the West and East ends. The trucks will be escorted during the beach movements.
By re-locating rocks immediately adjacent to the ‘lifting wave’ section of the winding beach walk (and overfilling with shingle) we will greatly adjust the beach levels and address the risk of falling created by last year’s storms. This will return this popular feature to nearer what it was designed to be i.e. level access to the beach and a gentler more ‘user friendly’ gradient, making the area safer and ready for you to use during the main summer season.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused by these essential works.
